Over 220 electric stairs and more than 20 electric elevators are effectively operating to provide full service to Umrah performers, enabling the movement of more than 200 thousand pilgrims each hour through the Grand Mosque and its courtyards. The stairs are available at the Saudi expansion, connecting paths between the hills of Safa and Marwa, small market toilets, and the entrances to the Grand Mosque from the small market tunnel. The elevators in these zones undergo regular maintenance and are equipped with safety features to minimize the likelihood of accidents.
To expedite field trips, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque dispatches engineers and technicians to monitor observations at the Grand Mosque, address them promptly, and check on their operating status. The organization also prioritizes staying up-to-date with new equipment maintenance and operation techniques for electromechanical systems by selecting the best worldwide operational and maintenance programs. Locations of electric escalators at the Grand Mosque are distributed according to structural design and the density of visitors.
