Man Dead, Swept Away by River After Storms in South Germany

Berlin, One man died in Bavaria after he was swept away by a river following heavy storms in the south of Germany.

The 52-year-old was reported missing to police Tuesday afternoon in the Alpine town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Emergency services spent several hours trying to locate the man before they found his body, dpa reported.

Several areas throughout southern Germany have been affected by heavy rainfall in the past days.

Emergency services were called out in many instances on Tuesday night, with cars washed away, streets and cellars flooded and trees uprooted, police said Wednesday.
