Baghdad, Iraq welcomed the decision of the Security Council unanimously on the extension of the mandate of the United Nations Mission In Iraq (UNAMI) until 31/5/2019.
A statement by the Foreign Ministry quoted Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari as saying during a meeting with the Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq Jan Kubic that Iraq welcomes the UN Security Council's unanimous decision to extend UNAMI's mandate until 2019/531. As (UNAMI) contributes to the achievement of the objectives set by the Security Council for the mission, praising the positive role shown by Kubic in supporting Iraq. "
He stressed Iraq's full support for the work of the International Investigation Mission in the field of documenting the crimes of the terrorist Daesh gangs, which was formed by the Security Council resolution, stressing the need to take the approval of the Iraqi government if there is any desire to adopt new strategies and plans related to the mandate of UNAMI and its powers or any programs or plans that may be outside UNAMI mandate".
Al-Jaafari called on the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to return the remaining funds since the 2004 foreign elections, amounting to 57 million dollars. He added: "We hope to reaffirm the commitment of the international community and friendly countries that participated in the Kuwait International Conference Reconstruction of Iraq. "
For his part, the UN official pointed out that the mission is in the process of prioritizing its work with the current government, which includes reconstruction and the return of displaced people and economic development, especially in the areas of southern Iraq because of the lack of adequate activities there.
He revealed that "The head of the international investigation mission to document the crimes of Daesh gangs will arrive in Baghdad in the coming days to consult with the Iraqi concerned authorities on the mechanism of the work of the mission to those crimes after the adoption of the United Nations Iraq's proposal to document."
