United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Lebanon, Hamad Said Al-Shamsi, recalled Sunday the late state founding leader, Sheikh Zayed’s devotion and support to Lebanon and its people, during a cultural-heritage event organized by the Lebanese-UAE Businessmen League under his patronage, alongside Caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil.
Addressing some 500 prominent officials and successful business executives who gathered at the Lebanese-Emirates House in Batroun to mark the “Year of Zayed” initiative, Al-Shamsi said, “The UAE is a loving and sisterly country to its Arab region, and is constantly playing a pivotal and effective role, showing dedication to the people in helping to provide better living conditions.”
“UAE succeeded in the last few years to find a prominent place on the map of the world countries thanks to its visionary leadership embodied by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, inspired by the intellect and approach of the late founding leader Sheikh Zayed, whose centennial we celebrate this year…an honorable and exceptional man and an Arab leader who devoted his life to the service of humanity,” Al-Shamsi added.
On the Lebanese-UAE relations, the Emirates Ambassador said, “The Lebanese community has played a major role in the renaissance of the UAE State. They have presented an honorable and civilized image of their home country, and today they are conveying the vision of the UAE and its development in this distinguished celebration, embodying the idea of interdependence among peoples and strengthening their customs and traditions.”
“Sheikh Zayed, God rest his soul, loved Lebanon and its people and contributed to the adoption of projects for the benefit of this country prior to the establishment of the UAE. Today we continue what he started by adopting a humanitarian policy reflected in the projects and campaigns executed across the year,” Al-Shamsi went on.
He stressed, “Our aids in Lebanon take a national dimension and are devoted to the most deprived, marginalized and destitute areas, and we try to reach all the villages and governorates to extend the hand of goodness according to an integrated strategy that raises the issue of giving, away from any agendas or narrow policies.”
“We deal with all the legitimate institutions and international organizations, which are licensed by the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, and our assistance varies between development, humanitarian and charitable,” Al-Shamsi explained.
He indicated that these aids are part of UAE’s specialized international programs within the context of its five-year plan for humanitarian assistance for the years 2017-2021.
