Moussawi deems approval of petroleum law advanced step in support of transparency

MP Nawwaf al-Moussawi on Thursday confirmed in the wake of the joint parliamentary committees’ meeting that with the approval of the petroleum’s anti-corruption law, Lebanon had been granted one of the most important governance systems, not to mention had taken an advanced step in support of transparency.

“As you may know, the parliamentary blocs are keen on seeking the best means to prevent the spread of corruption, especially within the promising petroleum sector. We have endeavored for months to discuss the bill submitted by former deputy, Joseph Maalouf, and today, the joint committees have decided the adoption of this law,” the lawmaker explained.

“We discussed articles on the means to fight corruption and agreed that companies should secure 80 percent of the jobs within the petroleum sector for Lebanese nationals,” Moussawi added.

“We found a general formula that does not contradict with the freedom of private companies in choosing their employees, but also guarantees equal opportunities and diversity. This means that all the Lebanese regions and all Lebanese parties will be able to work in this field,” he maintained.
