BRCS marks World First Aid Day

Manama, Secretary-General of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) Dr. Fawzi Amin said that the BRCS's celebration of World First Aid Day is a part of Society's role in raising first aid awareness and building skills for effective and quick response to crisis.

He added that the essence of relief and humanitarian work is saving lives, noting that awareness-raising and first-aid training are the cornerstones of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society's work.

He pointed out that the theme of the International Day of First Aid this year is "the first response to road accidents," in light of the fact that traffic accidents kill about 25 million people annually, while the number of injured is doubled.

Unless first aid is provided at its time, many people with serious injuries die, and thus it's important to provide assistance to an injured person before an ambulance arrives. Said Dr. Amin

He declared BRCS's communication to the concerned authorities in order to make them follow a first aid course as one of the main requirements for obtaining the driving license, expressing the readiness of the Society to provide all possible assistance in this regard.

According to statistics from the General Directorate of Traffic, 1699 people were killed in accidents in Bahrain last year, including 55 deaths, 520 serious injuries and 1,124 minor and moderate injuries. although Bahrain has moved to the ranking of civilized countries in the number of traffic accidents According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Bahrain has reduced the number of fatalities by 40% and the number of violations by 50% in 2016, but further progress is still possible and the number of victims and injured is reduced.

BRCS is keen to raise awareness of global scale of road accident deaths and injuries, and encourage people of all ages to learn first aid techniques, skills and confidence to deal with emergencies at a road accident. Dr. Amin added.
