Rahi urges politicians to ‘rise above their personal interests’

Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi, lifted the curtain off the memorial statue for the Lebanese Expatriate, at the invitation of the Honorary Consul in Halifax, Canada, Wadih Fares.

The ceremony was attended by Canadian Parliament Speaker Geoff Regan, in addition to a number of high-ranking Canadian officials and diplomats.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rahi called on the political class in Lebanon to "rise above their personal interests and narrow calculations for the sake of the country and its people."

He concluded by saying: "Officials have to demonstrate selflessness with the aim of building the country."
