President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, and First Lady Mrs. Nadia Aoun, arrived at JFK Airport in New York, at 5:00 p.m. local time (12:00 midnight Beirut time), to represent Lebanon at the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
President Aoun and the First Lady Were greeted at the airport by head of the Lebanese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Ambassador Amal Mdalali, Lebanese Ambassador to the US, Gaby Issa, military attache at the embassy, Brigadier General Fadi Dawoud, and other embassy staff.
In a statement made shortly after his arrival in New York, the President expressed hope that his participation in the UN General Assembly meeting would make it possible to convey to world leaders the Lebanese stances on internal and regional developments.
"The current circumstances in Lebanon and its neighboring countries make Lebanon's participation in the General Assembly meetings a necessity imposed by the accuracy of the prevailing stage, the President said.
Joining the Lebanese delegation in New York is Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister, Gebran Basil, who who had arrived in the United States on Sunday.
