Kuwait, Kuwait's National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim and Iraqi counterpart Mohammad Al-Halbusi have agreed on doubling efforts to cement bilateral parliamentary cooperation.
In a joint news conference at the conclusion of Al-Halbusi's visit to Kuwait on Wednesday, Al-Ghanim stated that they had agreed to coordinate efforts and stances at international fora to mobilize support for common issues. He added that they had emphasized the importance of reviving the parliamentary friendship committees as well as to encourage respective governments to execute mutually beneficial economic projects, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
For his part, Al-Halbusi said that the Amir of Kuwait HH Shaikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah had re-affirmed Kuwait's backing to Iraq and the importance of the Iraqi unity. He noted that HH the Amir had stressed that diversity should a source of richness and not a cause of division of Iraqi people.
The Iraqi chief lawmaker expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to HH the Amir for his support for the Iraqi government during the war against the so-called 'Daesh' terrorist group. He said that HH the Amir was leading in supporting Iraq during and after this war through offering aid to the displaced and contributing to efforts to restore stability and start reconstruction. He lauded the Amir's initiative to host the international conference for Iraq reconstruction in Kuwait last February. He reiterated that that he had agreed with Al-Ghanim to strengthen parliamentary relations and activate the parliamentary committees as well as to help buttress economic and trade cooperation between the two neighboring countries. The Iraqi speaker and his accompanying delegation arrived in the country on Tuesday for a two-day official visit.
