Baghdad, Barham Saleh, the candidate of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan for the post of President of the Republic denied, after meeting with Massoud Barzani, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, withdrew his candidacy.
Saleh said in a press statement: "I discussed with Barzani in Erbil the subject of candidacy for the post of President of the Republic, and I explained to him why do I continue stick to it, as a benefit to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan."
Saleh stressed that he enjoys great admissibility among the rest of the partners and political blocs that have expressed support for his nomination and welcome the choice of President of the Republic for his political and government experience and strong relations with all components and communities of Iraq.
Saleh confirmed, at the end of his statement, his commitment to the nomination for the post of President of the Republic for his belief in the importance of this post to serve Iraq and its people, and the sensitive circumstances experienced by Iraq and to preserve the unity of the country and the Iraqi people.
