Manama, The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has launched a series of events to raise awareness about breast cancer.
The campaigns was part of the company's efforts to support global awareness of breast cancer, and underscores the importance of early diagnosis in saving lives and providing proper treatment.
GPIC's President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery said the company is committed to the health of its employees and joins the rest of the world in observing Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October. He said the idea is to focus on raising awareness about this disease and clarifying the importance of early diagnosis and treatment methods. He said treatment has evolved greatly and has been able to save the lives of a large number of women. He added that the Company is committed to maintaining the health of its employees and would not spare any effort to provide all facilities for them. He said GPIC Medical Centre, uses modern and sophisticated detection devices, conducts an early screening campaign every year. It also distributes pamphlets and leaflets explaining how to conduct self-scanning and bringing home the point that it could be fatal in the event of delayed diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Jawahery spoke about the Bahrain Cancer Society-organised walk to support the campaign and said a large number of employees take part in this sporting event each year. He explained that walking and other physical activity provides a protection against the risk of various diseases and not only cancer. He spoke of the importance of exercise in protecting people from various diseases, calling for making sport a daily behavior. He urged employees to offer assistance, support and donations to associations that assist patients suffering from the disease.
GPIC is using the services of qualified doctors and specialists in the field of gynecology and oncology to provide educational lectures to employees and shed light on the causes of breast cancer and the methods of prevention and treatment available in Bahrain, he said.
