Italian Defense Attache celebrates ‘Italy’s unity and armed forces day’

Italian Defense Attache Col. Massimiliano Sforza marked Saturday the "Italian Unity and Armed Forces Day" in a ceremony held at the Military Officers' Club in Yarze, in the presence of Caretaker Defense Minister's representative, Brigadier General Nawaf Jibbawi, Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, and a number of prominent figures.

"The month of November means a lot to us because it marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, the struggle of compromise and transformation to Europe...but to Italy it represents the process of unity that began a century ago," Sforza said in his speech on the occasion.

"Today's celebration is to remember all the men and women who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the values of freedom and democracy," he added.

"The Italian armed forces are today a key component of the European Union and NATO, carrying out procedural action to prevent conflicts and achieve stability with the aim of turning attention to the priority of human rights. This is the task of the Italian armed forces in this century," Sforza underscored.

The Italian Defense Attache pointed to the valuable contribution of a large number of Italian armed forces operating on international missions in a number of friendly countries. "We have the honor of cooperating and working with our counterpart, the Lebanese Armed Forces, in the process of reorganization and reform, while witnessing the Lebanese Army's development, progress and success," Sforza indicated.

In turn, Italian Ambassador to Lebanon, Massimo Marotti, said, "We celebrate today in a spirit of friendship and cooperation, together with all the nations and peoples that have witnessed the most terrible war a century ago...In this same spirit, the six thousand Italian soldiers are serving on several international missions, and we support, respect and salute them."

"I am also happy to celebrate today with a number of soldiers serving in the international peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon in the most important task of stability and peace," Marotti added.

"If there are green fields north and south of the Blue Line and if there is prosperity and peace south and north of the Blue Line, this is thanks to the soldiers of the countries participating in these international forces working in the United Nations, including the Italian soldiers, along with the Lebanese army and other security forces," highlighted the Italian Ambassador.

"Italy expresses its strong and wide support for all the Lebanese Armed Forces," Marotti emphasized, adding, "Our friendship and cooperation with Lebanon is developing rapidly."
