Caretaker Tourism Minister, Avedis Guidanian, on Wednesday welcomed a visiting delegation from the Municipality of Barcelona, headed by the Municipality's Judicial Director, Martha Claris.
The delegation informed the Minister about Barcelona Municipality's decision to select Beirut city to take part in its annual festival, which will be taking place in September 2019, in Barcelona.
"Barcelona will host Beirut in its annual September festival," Guidanian said, explaining that this will take place in cooperation with the Municipality of Beirut, Beirut Governor, and the Ministry of Tourism. They will jointly prepare a four-day program, in which Lebanese artists, bands, and painters will be hosted within the framework of the Street Festival to discover Lebanon and its traditions," Minister Guidanian explained.
"We are interested in this event because Beirut and Lebanon will be hosted by one of the most important tourist countries in the world, and which receives more than 80 million tourists annually. Our presence there will give us additional impetus and an additional boost to tourism, not to mention a positive idea about Lebanon, which prompts tourists to visit to Lebanon," the Caretaker Tourism Minister added.
"Based on the aforementioned fact, we have approved of this cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality of Barcelona. There will also be direct cooperation between the cities of Beirut and Barcelona to organize this event," Guidanian said.
