Aoun to Palestinian Legislative Council delegation: Israel deeming Palestinians mere residents hostile to their existence

President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, on Monday affirmed Lebanon's solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle to fully restore their homeland and establish a state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The President deplored herein Israel's relentless attempts to abolish the Palestinian identity from the Arab and international map.

"The language adopted by Israel deeming Palestinians mere residents rather than citizens reflects hostile intentions that target the existence, rights, and role of the Palestinian people," Aoun added.

"As the world celebrates the International Day of Human Rights and 70 years since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the international community continues to disregard Israel's blatant violation of the rights of the Palestinian people," Aoun said in regret.

He stressed the continuous efforts with international bodies to keep the Palestinian cause alive and prevent its absence from international talks.

Aoun's words came during a meeting at Baabda Palace with a visiting delegation of the Palestinian Legislative Council headed by former Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahar, and an accompanying delegation.

In turn, Al-Zahar relayed the Palestinian people's appreciation of President Aoun's positions in regional and international forums. He also highlighted the continued efforts to break the siege on Gaza, which targets the Palestinian people's vital living sources.

At the economic level, President Aoun welcomed a delegation from the Lebanese Franchise Association (LFA) headed by Yehya Kasaa, who briefed the President on the role of the association and its contribution to the development of the national economy, "especially that the franchise networks and brands in Lebanon are in a continuous dynamic development and have attracted investor confidence."

Kasaa explained the vision of the association "to improve matters and push the wheel forward by means of supporting the efforts of the President of the Republic to strengthen the pillars of national unity and secure political, security and social stability."

President Aoun welcomed the delegation, noting the activities of the association in its field of competence.

He went on to shed light on the economic conditions that the country was currently undergoing, the effect of the global economic crisis, as well as the wars that have been being witnessed by neighboring Lebanese countries, and their huge impact on the Lebanese economy. The President also mentioned the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon and its negative repercussions on the local economy.

"Work is underway to rectify the country's economic path through a national economic plan, which is supposed to be approved by the new government to implement it," Aoun said.
