Derian: PM designate’s powers are key part of Taef accord

Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, on Monday affirmed in front of his visitors that the powers of Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri are key part of the Taef Accord.

"PM-Designate Saad Hariri's powers are an important pillar of the building of the state and its advancement, and no one can exceed these powers by creating norms and conditions contrary to the constitutional provisions," Mufti Derian told his visitors.

Derian urged the political forces and figures to abide by the Constitution- content and spirit- and the Taef Agreement, as well as to preserve the dignity of the people and their leaderships.

The Grand Mufti warned of the dangers of tampering with the powers of the PM-designate.

On the other hand, Mufti Derian received in Dar Al-Fatwa, the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Lebanon, Dr. Hamad Saeed Al-Shamsi, with whom he discussed an array of public affairs and bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.

Ambassador Shamsi hoped that Lebanon will enjoy prosperity and growth, especially in the economic sphere, after the formation of the government to accomplish many projects through the CEDRE Conference.

Shamsi expressed his country's readiness to stand by Lebanon to reinforce its state institutions as the basic emblem of Lebanon's unity, sovereignty and Arabism.

Mufti Derian, for his part, highlighted the importance of the UAE's role and support to maintain the unity of Lebanon and reinforce the Lebanese state and its legitimate institutions, to emerge from its successive crises.
