Najaf, Najaf Governor Luay al-Yasiri announced the signing of several agreements with the Saudi side, the most important of which is the continuation of the trade exchange project and the free zone linking Najaf and the Kingdom with a length of 239 km.

"We have agreed with the official carrier of Saudi Arabia to transfer pilgrims directly from the kingdom to Najaf and there is a request from Aramco to hold agreements and coordinate with the Iraqi side on setting up a number of energy projects in Iraq," Yasiri told NINA.

Yasiri referred to a request by the Emir of Mecca for a merger between Najaf and Mecca as two holy cities.

He added: "It was agreed to the landing of the Saudi carrier aircraft and the transfer of visitors to Saudi holy sites to Najaf directly without going to the Gulf countries such as Bahrain and the UAE."

He added, "It was also agreed to allow direct travel of Iraqis to the Kingdom and lift the entry visa in this area."

On the investment aspects, Al-Yasiri said, "Many projects were also presented to Saudi investment companies in terms of both industrial and agricultural aspects which attract large working hands. A close visit to the Saudi Investment Authority was approved for Najaf to look closely at these opportunities."

"We also agreed on a visit by a delegation from the Saudi Ministry of Higher Education to the University of Kufa. We also received a request from the Emir of Mecca to visit Najaf, which in turn announced the importance of integration and cooperation between the cities of Mecca and Najaf as two holy cities. And we await orders from the Iraqi government in this regard. "
