We Value Sweden’s Role, Efforts Exerted to Reach Stockholm Agreement, relating to Yemen, Al-Jubeir Says

Riyadh, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Member of the Cabinet Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir valued the role and efforts of the Kingdom of Sweden, in relation to the Stockholm Agreement, peace process and issues of the region.

This came during a joint press conference held here today with the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden Anne Linde.

He urged the Yemeni parties to fully implement Stockholm Agreement and work towards a comprehensive political settlement, in the country, reaffirming commitment of the Kingdom and the international community to ensure that Yemen receives humanitarian assistance, by opening as many paths as possible to provide that aid, and working towards a political settlement.

Al-Jubeir pointed out that during his meeting with the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs, the situation and implementing Stockholm Agreement were discussed, in addition to the Palestinian issue, and the situation in Syria as well as regional issues in general, confirming in this regard the conformity of views between the two countries.

Emphasizing the Kingdom's commitment to a political solution in Yemen, especially as there is an awareness among the Yemeni parties of the importance of resolving the conflict politically, and that the Yemeni people deserve a better future, which can only be obtained if there is peace and reconstruction, Al-Jubeir drew attention to the fact that the Kingdom has provided more than $14 billion in humanitarian aid to Yemen, and is working to rehabilitate children recruited by the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militia, remove mines, and launch small projects, in safe areas of work, noting that the Kingdom is working with United Nations organizations, in their regard.

The United States and partner countries, including Sweden, are trying to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches the Yemeni people, stressing the need for Houthi militias to stop their access to aid reaching those in need, he added.

Al-Jubeir reiterated the Kingdom's position towards the Iranian negative role in the region, its support for terrorist organizations, the export of the revolution, and the destabilization of security in the region. He said: Iran cannot have a role in Yemen, where it caused destruction and devastation and did not lay a brick to build even a hospital or a school, in Yemen.
