19th Annual GCA Symposium Commences in Riyadh

The 19th Annual Symposium of the General Court of Audit (GCA) commenced in Riyadh today. Organized by GCA through the Saudi Center for Financial and Performance Auditing (SCFPA), the symposium is centered on the topic of "Auditing and Enhancing Public Finance Performance Through Accrual-Based Accounting Principles." The event has brought together government officials, specialists, and experts from national and international domains to the conference hall at the GCA headquarters. The symposium opened with a speech by GCA President Dr. Hussam Alangari, followed by a keynote address by the Comptroller General of the United States, Gene L. Dodaro. A press release issued by GCA today highlighted that the symposium included two panel discussions. The first panel delved into "Preparing and Auditing the Consolidated Financial Statements of the State," featuring Dr. Isma Yatun, Chair of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia; Abdulaziz Alfuraih, Chairperson of the Steering Committee at the Ministry of Finance ; Laama Alhammadi, Supervisor of the Financial Statements Audit Office at GCA; and Wael Abou Zaki, Partner and Government Reporting Leader at PwC Middle East. The second panel will focus on "Financial Planning Using the Accrual Basis," with insights from the President of the Audit Bureau of Jordan Dr. Radhi Al-Hamadeen; the Executive Deputy for Performance Audit at GCA Abdulaziz Almutawa; Deputy Ministry for Financial Affairs and Accounts at the Ministry of Finance Hamad Alkanhal; Deputy Minister for Public and Economic Planning at the Ministry of Economy and Planning Rakan Alsheikh; and member of the OECD Advisory Panel on Budgeting and Public Expenditures Dr. Marc Robinson. The symposium also included a booth highlighting GCA's efforts in transitioning the government accounting system in the Kingdom to the accrual accounting principle in the public sector in collaboration with the SCFPA and the Saudi Institute of Internal Auditors.
