A fire in a wedding hall in Al-Hamdaniya district in Nineveh caused the death and injury of 78 people, including women and children.

A source in the Civil Defense told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA): “The wedding turned into a tragedy that resulted in the death of 12 people and the injury of 66 others, due to a large fire that consumed the Ibn al-Haytham wedding hall as a result of shooting fireworks and lighting candles inside the hall.”

The source added: “The number of victims is likely to increase due to the presence of more than 700 people inside the hall.”
