Cairo– The Council of the Arab League, at the level of foreign ministers, called upon the International Criminal Court (ICC) to proceed with a criminal investigation into war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel against the defenseless Palestinian people, including the displacement of Palestinians from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and the rest of the occupied Palestinian areas and neighborhoods. It also called on the ICC to provide all material and human resources for this investigation.

At the end of its extraordinary session, which was held virtually today, the Council approved forming an Arab ministerial committee, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, Egypt, Morocco, the presidency of the Arab summit, the Arab member at the Security Council, the Secretary General, to move and communicate with the permanent members of the Security Council and other internationally influential states in order to urge them to take practical steps to stop the illegal Israeli policies and measures in the occupied city of Jerusalem (Al-Quds), as the committee has to submit a report on the outcomes of its efforts to the Arab League Council’s meeting in an extraordinary session to be held for this purpose.

The Council also decided to assign the Arab Group at the United Nations in New York to initiate consultations and procedures with the President of the Security Council and the President of the General Assembly to discuss the option of holding tenth emergency special session on illegal Israeli actions in the occupied East Jerusalem (Al-Quds) and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Council also assigned the Arab Group to Geneva and Paris to initiate the necessary consultations and measures in the Human Rights Council and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to confront the cessation of the Israeli attacks and systematic policies in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

The Council strongly condemned the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the defenseless Muslim worshipers in Al-Aqsa Mosque, which were escalated dangerously during the past weeks and days of the holy month of Ramadan, and led to hundreds of injuries and arrests among the worshipers, affirming that these attacks and crimes are flagrant provocation to the feelings of the Muslims everywhere.
