Bahrain National Robotics Competition set to kick off

Manama, The 13th edition of the Bahrain National Robotics Competition kicked off today under the theme ‘Allies of the Earth’.

The competition is held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA) and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC). It is organised by the Ministry of Education and Britus Education, the national organiser of the World Robotics Olympiad.

Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, the Minister of Education, thanked HH Shaikh Khalid for his ongoing support of the national robotics competition.

He said that the competition aims to enhance students’ skills in robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), fostering creativity based on modern scientific principles. The high participation rate reflects the competition’s significance and the awareness among schools and students about its importance.

As an official organiser, Britus Education aims to develop a modern and inspiring learning environment in technology and robotics for all school students in Bahrain.

Kamal thanked the minister for the dedicated efforts to developing students’ skills in robotics and AI. She highlighted the competition’s significance in enhancing students’ capabilities, preparing them for international competitions, and showcasing Bahraini students on global platforms.

This year’s Bahrain National Robotics Competition will feature 364 students from 118 teams across 58 schools, marking a significant increase of 23.8% in students, 51.3% in teams, and 81.3% in schools compared to the previous edition.

Categories in the Bahrain National Robotics Competition include ROBO MISSION and ROBO SPORT, where students build and programme robots to complete tasks on competition tables meet
ing World Robotics Olympiad standards. Another category, FUTURE INNOVATORS, involves teams creating projects aligned with the annual theme, incorporating robotics.

The Bahrain National Robotics Competition brought together participants from primary, intermediate, and secondary levels of education in public and private schools, as well as students from the Ministry of Education’s Gifted Student Care Centre and the Nasser Centre for Vocational Training and Rehabilitation, along with individual teams.

At the conclusion of the competition on 8 May 2024, a number of teams will qualify to participate in the World Robotics Olympiad, which will be held in Trkiye in November.
