Deputy Sports Minister Tomorrow Opens the World Weightlifting Championship in Jeddah

Riyadh, Deputy Minister of Sports Badr Al-Qadi is scheduled to inaugurate in Jeddah tomorrow the U-17 Youth World Weightlifting Championship, in the presence of President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Michael Irani. The event is held under the patronage of Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sports who is also President of the Saudi Olympic Committee.

The inauguration ceremony will be held with the participation of more than 300 weightlifters representing 54 countries.

On the occasion, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal said: “Hosting this championship for the first time in the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, despite the circumstances affecting the world due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, embodies the unlimited support the wise leadership of the beloved country is extending to the sports sector in realizing the targets of the Saudi Vision 2030 and developing different kinds of sports, as well as contributing to the GDP of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”.

He also welcomed all participating athletes, wishing them a good stay and every participant showing a distinguished technical level.
