The French Authorities announced the arrest of three policemen as part of investigations following the killing of a young man during the demonstrations that included riots in the city of Marseille in early July.
The Public Prosecution Office in the city of Marseille, in southern France, stated that three members of a special unit in the police were placed in custody, pending investigations into the killing of the young man, Muhammad Idris, during the riots that erupted against the background of the killing of the young man, 17-year-old Nael, by a policeman near the capital Paris at a traffic checkpoint last June.
It indicated that during Idris’s autopsy, “traces of non-live bullets were detected on his chest,” according to the France 24 channel.
At the end of last month, the Public Prosecution office considered it “probable” that the death of the young Idris was caused by violent trauma to the chest level as a result of a “flashball”, referring to the defensive flashing ball gun.
The Public Prosecution announced, in a statement, that five members of the Rapid Intervention Unit in the police were placed in custody, before releasing two of the detainees, while several other police officers were summoned to hear their testimony as witnesses in the case.
It is noteworthy that widespread protests erupted in the French capital and other cities against the backdrop of the killing of the young man, Nael, by a bullet in the chest fired by a policeman at close range during a traffic check in a suburb of Paris on June 27, and during the continuous protests, police and gendarmerie stations were attacked, in addition to the burning of hundreds of cars and buildings.”
