In a phone call… Al-Sudani confirms to Ismail Haniyeh Iraq’s support for Hamas’ decision to agree to the truce

Baghdad, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received, this afternoon, Wednesday, a phone call from the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Ismail Haniyeh.

The Prime Minister said, according to a statement from his media office: ‘The decision taken by Hamas to agree to the truce is a responsible decision that stems from an appreciation of the highest interests of the Palestinian people,’ stressing Iraq’s support for this step that would stop the suffering of the Palestinian people, and it also represents a response for the efforts of the Arab brothers to end the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Al-Sudani stressed the need for the international community to take a stand to stop the war in Gaza, and for the major countries to bear their responsibilities in preventing the continuation of the aggression, especially with the occupation forces insisting on storming Rafah crossing and causing a humanitarian catastrophe, and continuing to commit heinous crimes against civilians.

or his part, Haniyeh provided, during the call, a detailed explanation regarding the Hamas movement’s decision to agree to a truce to stop the war in Gaza and respond to Arab efforts, expressing his thanks and appreciation for the support provided by Iraq, the government and people, whether in political positions or by sending urgent humanitarian aid for civilians trapped in Gaza.
