Baghdad: Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani received Secretary General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) Deemah AlYahya to discuss opportunities for collaboration in supporting Iraq’s digital transformation plan. The talks centered on Iraq’s digital transformation journey, which is part of a broader strategy for digital business and artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Saudi Press Agency, the strategy aims to develop human capabilities, enabling young people to contribute significantly to the growth of Iraq’s digital economy. Iraq is actively pursuing digital transformation to enhance sustainable infrastructure and economic advancement. Initiatives such as the upcoming Digital Space Iraq Forum in November 2024 highlight the nation’s commitment to investing in human capital and adopting advanced technologies like AI to establish a comprehensive digital economy.
Prime Minister Al Sudani emphasized that his government has laid the groundwork for digital transforma
tion and expressed confidence in Iraq’s capacity to achieve substantial progress in this sector. He also conveyed willingness to collaborate with the DCO to identify projects that align with Iraq’s digital transformation framework.
AlYahya praised Iraq’s advancements in the digital sector, particularly its focus on investing in human capabilities and developing digital skills, which are expected to drive the growth of Iraq’s digital economy.
Since its founding in November 2020, the DCO has led global efforts to strengthen the digital economy by advocating for policies and initiatives that emphasize inclusivity, innovation, and sustainable growth. Initiatives like the Digital Economy Navigator (DEN) and the Digital FDI Initiative have facilitated international digital cooperation, supported cross-border collaboration, and aided entrepreneurs and businesses within its Member States.
The Digital Cooperation Organization consists of 16 Member States, representing nearly $3.5 trillion in GDP and a market of app
roximately 800 million people, over 70% of whom are under the age of 35. It stands as the world’s first standalone international intergovernmental organization dedicated to the accelerated growth of an inclusive and sustainable digital economy.
