Beirut– Grand Mufti of Lebanon Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian said that the return of the Saudi ambassador to Lebanon contributed to huge relief in ourselves, especially that we do not imagine ourselves without the cover of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In statements to the press, he added that we have always supported the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s return to Lebanon as per the constitution and the Taif Agreement, and we are proud of the encompassing Arab identity.
He added that this step expresses the keenness of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries to enjoy good relations with Lebanon so as to keep Lebanon within the Arab world, referring to the Lebanese people’s commitment to their Arab identity.
He said: “We are interested in relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Lebanon,” expressing hope for the Lebanese-Arab ties to stay at the highest levels of rapprochement and fraternity adding that as long as things are going the right way and as long as we maintain a proper course, these relations will be good and there will be no future crises with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He noted that he asked Lebanese President Michel Aoun to work on resuming solidarity between Lebanon and Arab brothers, calling on all the Lebanese people to spare no effort to ensure that Lebanese-Arab ties are at their best for the benefit of all Lebanese citizens.
