Najran: The Najran region has realized a groundbreaking achievement in agriculture: successful rice cultivation using modern techniques. Thanks to the region’s fertile soil, moderate climate, and abundant water resources, this accomplishment builds upon previous successes in cultivating diverse crops.
According to Saudi Press Agency, during a recent visit to a model farm in Najran, a reporter met with the Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s Najran branch, Eng. Mareh Al-Shahrani. He attributed the success of the rice cultivation experiment to the use of high-quality seeds and seedlings coupled with advanced drip irrigation systems. This method significantly reduces water consumption, marking a significant agricultural breakthrough for the region and paving the way for future crop diversification.
Ali Al-Harith, the farm’s supervisor and agricultural researcher, explained to SPA that the irrigation technique involves precisely timed water distribution. Each irrigation cycl
e lasts five minutes per hour for 12 hours daily. This controlled approach ensures optimal water usage without wastage.
