Parliamentary Electricity Committee discusses with the Ministers of Electricity and Oil joint cooperation in the field of energy

The Parliamentary Electricity and Energy Committee discussed with the Ministers of Electricity and Oil joint cooperation in the field of energy.

The Parliamentary Media Department stated: “The Committee, headed by MP Muhammad Nuri al-Abd Rabbo, hosted today the Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali, and the Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul Ghani, and the advanced staff in the two ministries, to discuss the possibility of cooperation between the two Ministries and supplying fuel stations.

During the hosting, which was held at the headquarters of the Legal Committee in the House of Representatives building, the Chairman of the Committee stressed the importance of joint work, which requires the need for cooperation among all in order to reach the specific goals and contribute to the energy sectors, to come up with a result that meets the requirements of the country and the possibility of supplying what the Ministry of Electricity needs for quantities of fuel by the Ministry of Oil.

The Committee listened to an explanation by the Minister of Electricity, about the stopped stations and the need to provide them with fuel, in addition to the Ministry’s plan to add other stations, indicating the formation of a joint committee between the Ministries of Electricity and Oil, to submit its report weekly to discuss matters between the two Ministries and make its recommendations, adding the need to work as a team with The Ministry of Oil, and addressing the problems, calling for the addition of a paragraph in the budget law to allocate sufficient sums of money.

For his part, the Minister of Oil reviewed the work of the Ministry, stressing the commitment to provide sufficient quantities of fuel to the Ministry of Electricity, pointing to the existence of projects in the southern regions to invest in gas, as well as the opening of a gas production plant during the current year to contribute to the processing of power stations, adding that the investment contract with (Total) would be activated to invest in fuel, and to coordinate between the two Ministries to supply stations in order to generate electric power.

The committee discussed the medium-term plan of the Ministry of Electricity and its fuel needs, and a review of the current stations and the need to establish other stations.

For his part, the Minister of Electricity referred to the Ministry’s reliance on (7000) megawatts of Iranian gas, explaining the importance of having an alternative contingency plan in the event of a gas outage from the Iranian side during the summer, and finding alternative sources to equip the stations by laying pipelines to transport fuel.

The interventions of the committee members focused on the plans and the actual need for the quantities of gas prepared to operate the stations, the possibility of extending an emergency line to transport gas, and the importance of having accurate data for electricity consumption at peak times, in addition to the licensing rounds file, and fault diagnosis to find appropriate solutions.

The Committee requested that it be provided with the plan prepared by the Ministry of Electricity, in coordination with the Ministry of Oil, up to the year 2030, and the attached tables for perusal and prioritization.
