Saudi Arabia to Host 10th Forum of the Arab Division of Experts on Geographical Names on November 10-12.

Jeddah: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the 10th Forum of the Arab Division of Experts in Geographical Names in Jeddah from November 10 to 12, 2024, under the patronage of Minister of Defense and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA) Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. According to Saudi Press Agency, the forum is themed "Strengthening relations and links between Arab states in the field of geographical names" and will feature programs and activities involving government, private, academic, and non-profit sectors. Participants will include representatives from 22 Arab countries and international organizations, aiming to facilitate the exchange of ideas, experiences, and visions among specialists in geographical names. The forum seeks to enhance Arab cultural identity, support joint Arab initiatives, and foster connections with international organizations. Key topics to be discussed at the forum include Arab countries' activities i n the field of geographical names, the interpretation of these names, and their integration in geospatial technologies and artificial intelligence. The development and management of digital dictionaries for geographical names, meeting international standards, will also be addressed, along with the unification of names in classical Arabic. GEOSA President and Chairman of the National Committee for Geographical Names Dr. Eng. Mohammed Alsayel highlighted the significance of this event. He noted the ongoing support from the Kingdom's leadership in this field and underscored Saudi Arabia's leading positive role in the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names.
