The Minister of Environment Chairs The Second Meeting Of The National Committee For Climate Change

The Minister of Environment, Nizar Amidi, chaired today, Wednesday, the second meeting of the National Committee of Climate Change.

A statement by the ministry said: “The second meeting of the National Committee for Climate Change was attended by an effective and ambitious delegation that reflects the needs, priorities and interests of Iraq on the issue of climate change in all meetings and side events of the Conference of the States Parties at its twenty-eighth session for climate change in Dubai COP28 – Dubai, and discussing the most important issues that were dealt with during the second meeting of the National Committee for Climate Change, formed according to Diwani Order 23533 of 2023 issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, in the presence of the Chairman of the Parliamentary Health and Environment Committee, Majid Shankali, representatives of the UNDP, undersecretaries of the relevant ministries, and all members of the committee at the ministry’s headquarters.

The Minister of Environment indicated the most important axes that were discussed, including following up the outcomes of the first meeting of the National Committee for Climate Change and discussing the latest developments regarding the preparations for the conference, pointing to the necessity of completing and preparing the permanent negotiating delegation for climate conferences and preparing all the requirements required in order to achieve the goals of participation in the conference.

Amidi added, “The conference is a global platform for discussing climate issues, with the aim of supporting the course of climate negotiations between countries of the world, unifying efforts and finding effective and fair solutions to reduce the effects of climate change and promote sustainable economic development.”

The Iraqi ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Mudhaffar al-Jubouri, and a representative of the Environmental Protection and Improvement Authority in the Kurdistan Region participated in the meeting, via an electronic video link./ End
