Bahraini Ambassador to Syria, Waheed Mubarak Sayyar, has announced that two Bahraini relief aid convoys (the third and fourth) have arrived in the Syrian territories to support those affected by the earthquake that struck the northern regions of Syria.

The ambassador asserted that the move is based on the distinguished fraternal Bahraini-Syrian relations, noting that in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the kingdom will continue standing by the brotherly Syrian people in confronting the ordeal they are going through to alleviate the sufferings of the victims’ families.

The ambassador indicated that the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF), led by HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, will continue dispatching relief aid convoys to Syria to help it overcome the repercussions of the devastating quake, noting that the convoys entered through the Nasib Border Crossing with Jordan, and the relief aid was handed over to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent.

The relief aid, including blankets, shelter tents, basic foodstuffs, medical and first aid materials, as well as necessary medical supplies, will be distributed in the various earthquake-affected areas.

He indicated that a specialised Bahraini medical team from the Bahrain Medical Society, led by Dr. Amer Al-Derazi, had arrived in Syria, where it visited the afflicted areas’ hospitals, gave medical consultations to the wounded and conducted sensitive operations.

The Bahraini medical delegation was briefed on the needs of hospitals in the affected places, including necessary medicines, supplies, and medical devices.

Ambassador Sayyar also said that the medical team had identified the urgent needs and agreed with the relevant authorities to provide them from Bahrain, in line with the kingdom’s keenness to support Syria in its efforts to overcome the repercussions of the quake.

He indicated that the RHF is currently preparing other relief aid shipments that will successively arrive in Syria to mitigate the effects of this painful disaster.
