New york: Under-Secretary-General and United Nations Secretary-General’s Technology Envoy Amandeep Singh Gill commended Saudi Arabia’s support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, recognizing the Kingdom’s advancements in data and artificial intelligence and its role in global dialogue on these technologies. This recognition was discussed today during a meeting with President of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) Dr. Abdullah Alghamdi at the Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia to the UN in New York.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the UN in data and AI, as well as the Kingdom’s role in supporting the SDGs in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030. Alghamdi reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to UN initiatives on AI governance and responsible use of technology. He emphasized the need for expertise exchange and the establishment of legislative and ethical frameworks to ensure technology reliability. The SDAIA president also highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts to develop human capabilities and enable communities to benefit from AI applications.
Gill noted that Saudi Arabia is a key partner in the UN, supporting initiatives for AI governance and responsible technology use. He praised the Kingdom’s role in promoting global dialogue on digital technologies and its participation in relevant UN committees. He stressed the importance of ongoing cooperation in developing international policies, capacity building, and knowledge exchange.
