Guidanian, apostolic nuncio discuss means to revive religious tourism in Lebanon

Caretaker Minister of Tourism, Avedis Guidanian, visited on Tuesday the apostolic nuncio, Monsignor Joseph Spiteri at the embassy headquarters in Harissa.

The Minister reportedly thanked the Vatican on its initiative to include Lebanon in the official list of pilgrimage destinations as of 2019; a list issued annually by the Holy See.

The two sides discussed ways to benefit from this initiative. Guidanian hence asked to "communicate and coordinate, through the apostolic nuncio, so as to develop a vision on a strategy that leads to inviting specialists, travel agents and tourism and specialized media representatives linked to the Vatican, as well as some missionaries specialized in pilgrimage and have experience in this field, in a bid to shed the light on this religious tourism destination and promote it."

Guidanian also presented a road map "between the Ministry of Tourism and the Papal Embassy to activate this tourist destination through pilgrimage visits to holy places including those in Lebanon."
