BAGHDAD, President Barham Saleh received an invitation from his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Turkey.
"President Barham Saleh met at the Salam Palace in Baghdad on Thursday with Turkish Ambassador Fatih Yildiz, who handed him a letter from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which included an invitation to visit Turkey," a presidential statement said.
Saleh stressed during the meeting "the depth of historical relations between Iraq and Turkey and the need to strengthen them to serve the common interests of the two friendly countries."
During the meeting, they discussed ways to develop joint relations between the two countries and the importance of expanding cooperation in all fields in the interests of the two friendly peoples.
President asked Yildiz to convey his greetings to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and to thank him for the invitation, promising to meet it at the earliest opportunity.
For his part, the Turkish ambassador reiterated the desire of his country and its keenness to strengthen relations with Iraq at various levels that contributing to strengthening the relations of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
