Nepal Landslides and Floods Kill 14, Nine Missing


Riyadh: Persistent monsoon rainfall across Nepal has triggered flash floods and landslides, killing at least 14 people since Saturday, officials said.

Dan Bahadur Karki, spokesperson for Nepal Police, said at least nine people remain missing due to floods and landslides in various parts of the country.

“Our team is working in affected areas, trying to find the missing and move the affected people to safety,” Karki told dpa on Sunday.

Officials have yet to assess the damage, although local media report widespread devastation from the country’s southern plains near India to the mountainous regions bordering Tibet.

According to Nepal’s Meteorological Department, parts of the country can expect further heavy rain and thunderstorms through Monday.

Health Minister meets Gulf CDC delegation

Manama, Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan, the Minister of Health, met with Dr. Pasi Penttinen, the Executive Director of Gulf the Gulf Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), and the accompanying delegation.

The minister underscored the importance of the role played by Gulf CDC in keeping pace with all developments related to the spread and prevention of chronic and communicable diseases.

She commended the continuous efforts and follow-up carried out by the Gulf CDC in coordination with all health sectors in the GCC in the field of developing health emergency preparedness and response systems, in addition to exchanging expertise , information and best practices in public health, capacity-building and evaluating and developing joint monitoring systems.

Dr Penttinen thanked the Minister and the Health Ministry for their continuous cooperation with the Gulf CDC.

He commended the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in support of joint GCC health plans and programmes.

The Authority said in a statement that with more satisfaction and submission to the will and destiny of Almighty God, the Popular Mobilization Authority mourns the Director of the Operations Department in the Baghdad Belt Operations Command of the Popular Mobilization, the martyr Salah Hassoun Nasser (Abu Taqwa Al-Amiri), who ascended as a result of an unfortunate accident while performing duty.

It added that on this occasion, we extend our sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased and all his relatives, asking the Almighty God to have mercy on him and to dwell in his spacious gardens and to inspire his family with patience and solace.

The Authority recalled on this occasion the great role of the deceased in the Popular Mobilization and performing duty in defense of the homeland and the security of its regions.

Religious Affairs Presidency Launches Umrah Season Plan for 1446 AH

Makkah, The Presidency of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has launched the Umrah season plan for 1446 AH, the largest of its kind in the presidency’s history.

The plan aims to enrich the experience of visitors, Umrah performers, and pilgrims and to create a devout atmosphere through hundreds of religious and scientific initiatives and programs throughout the Umrah season, involving thousands of volunteers in the Two Holy Mosques, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The President of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, during the launch of the plan at his office, noted that the Umrah season plan commenced with the beginning of the new Hijri year 1446 AH.

He stressed that the plan aims to boost the strengths of the Umrah season, elevate the concept of serving and caring for Umrah performers as a central theme, enhance integrative roles with the Umrah system, and achieve harmony with all government entities and succ
ess partners.

Al-Sudais pointed out that the operational plan for the Umrah season in the Two Holy Mosques spans nine months, divided into three phases, concluding at the end of Shaban 1446 AH, after which the Ramadan plan for 1446 AH will commence.

He revealed that the presidency is set to launch numerous intelligent religious robots to provide effective services to visitors at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, facilitating access to services at all times.

He noted the continuous delivery of the Two Holy Mosques’ religious and directive message, with the presidency preparing numerous lessons and scientific and directive lectures delivered by esteemed scholars from the Council of Senior Scholars and teachers of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.

Al-Sudais added that the presidency has focused on diversifying initiatives, programs, and services in its 1446 AH Umrah season plan to achieve the highest levels of comfort for visitors, making their rituals easier and smoother in a devout, healt
hy, and spiritual environment.

The plan also includes intensifying scientific and guidance lessons, increasing Quran lessons and on-ground religious awareness, launching enriching religious exhibitions, and inaugurating the largest religious gifting programme.

The presidency aims to leverage artificial intelligence technologies, digitize programmes, and utilise e-applications across various fields to serve visitors and communicate with them in global languages, facilitating their rituals and enriching their experience.

The Spokesman for the Interior Ministry, the Security Media Cell, Brigadier General Muqdad Miri, announced the arrest of an international drug dealer with 45 kg of narcotic pills in Muthanna.

Miri said in a statement: In a precise security intelligence operation and technical efforts, the detachments of the General Directorate for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances were able to arrest an international drug dealer with 275,000 Captagon pills in his possession, equivalent to 45 kilograms, in Muthanna Governorate, where the accused was presented to the investigating judge, who decided to detain him in accordance with the provisions of Article 27 of the Anti-Narcotics Law.
