Madinah’s Hadya Castle: Historic Stop and Water Source for Hajj Caravans

Madinah: Positioned to the north of Madinah, Hadya Castle stands prominently between Wadi Al-Tabaq and Wadi Khaybar. This ancient structure holds a profound historical significance, recounting the centuries-long journeys of Hajj and trade caravans from the Levant to Makkah.

According to Saudi Press Agency, as a crucial point on the Levantine pilgrimage route, the archaeological site of Hadya Castle likely served as a pilgrim station during the late Islamic era, providing security and essential supplies to caravans en route to Makkah. Its strategic position overlooking a rainwater-collecting pond made it a vital water source and provisioning center for pilgrims.

Originally featuring four defensive towers at its corners, three of Hadya Castle's towers stand resilient today, while the fourth has succumbed to the passage of time.
