PIF, SITE and Microsoft Sign MoU to Explore Sovereign Cloud Services in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh: The Public Investment Fund (PIF), Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE), and Microsoft have announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the delivery of Microsoft’s sovereign-cloud services in Saudi Arabia. This initiative aims to enhance the security, confidentiality, and sovereignty of data within the country, while providing access to cutting-edge cloud and AI technologies.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Microsoft brings extensive experience in delivering sovereign-cloud capabilities, which enable governments and highly regulated industries to adopt cloud solutions while maintaining national data controls. This aligns with the laws of specific regions and countries, ensuring compliance and data protection.

Under the MoU, Microsoft will collaborate with PIF and SITE to evaluate how its sovereign-cloud model can support Saudi Arabia’s security, compliance, and data residency priorities. The partnership also seeks to strengthen collaboration in joint research, development, innovation, and knowledge transfer.

PIF’s strategy in the information and communication technology sector aims to position Saudi Arabia as a globally competitive hub. By focusing on innovation and capacity building, PIF contributes to the development and diversification of the domestic economy. The non-binding MoU is subject to the fulfillment of certain requirements and regulatory approvals.
