JIAT Refutes Allegations of Coalition Forces Targeting Residential Units in Al-Hudaydah

Al-hudaydah: The Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT) has issued an official statement addressing allegations that Coalition Forces targeted residential units belonging to Electricity Company employees in the Al-Hali Directorate of Al-Hudaydah Governorate on March 26, 2022.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the allegations originated from a letter by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) in Yemen, claiming that two airstrikes at 3:00 am resulted in the destruction of six residential units in Jizan Street. JIAT conducted a thorough investigation, examining air tasking orders, satellite images, and other relevant documents, and determined that the coordinates provided in the claim were located along a main street in the northern part of Al-Hudaydah city.

JIAT's assessment revealed that the Coalition Forces had received intelligence indicating that Al-Houthi armed militia had seized a site in Al-Hudaydah, using it for military manufacturing and hosting foreign experts. This site, deemed a legitimate military target, was struck by the Coalition Forces at the specified time using two guided bombs. JIAT emphasized that precautions were taken to avoid civilian casualties, including timing the operation late at night and ensuring the absence of civilians.

Satellite imagery reviewed by JIAT showed that the military target was approximately 220 meters away from the coordinates cited in the claim, with no evidence of airstrikes at the claimed location or surrounding buildings. The description of the alleged residential units did not match the characteristics of the targeted military site.

In conclusion, JIAT found that the Coalition Forces' actions adhered to International Humanitarian Law, affirming that no residential units belonging to Electricity Company employees were targeted as claimed.
