Yemeni Leadership Council Acts to Safeguard Aden Amid Rising Tensions

Aden: The Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, led by President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, convened an emergency meeting attended by members Sultan Al-Aradah, Tariq Saleh, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, and Othman Majali.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting focused on recent security and military developments in the southern governorates. This comes in response to a statement from the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, which pointed to a significant escalation by certain rebel leaders who have hindered de-escalation efforts.

The council discussed the ramifications of a member's refusal to accept an invitation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, along with unilateral actions that deviated from the agreed transitional framework, thereby jeopardizing civilian protection and contributing to violence.

The council decided to expel Aidrous Al-Zubaidi from his position and refer him to the Attorney General on charges of high treason, damaging Yemen's political and economic status, obstructing state efforts against the coup, and inciting internal discord.

Further actions included dismissing Minister of Transport Abdulsalam Hamid and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Waed Badhib, with both referred for investigation. The council also ordered the arrest of those distributing weapons and threatening civil peace, ensuring they are brought to justice. It stressed the importance of adhering to the rule of law and protecting public rights and freedoms.

The council reiterated that unity in military and security decision-making and adherence to the chain of command are essential, warning that any serious breach would result in accountability under the constitution and law.

In response, the council approved urgent measures, directing authorities to safeguard civilians and public facilities in Aden and the liberated governorates. It also aimed to unify command over military and security formations and prevent unauthorized movements.

The council expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen for their efforts in reducing tensions, protecting civilians, and maintaining stability. It affirmed the state's commitment to enforcing sovereign decisions and maintaining legal authority.

Additionally, the council praised the people of Aden and the liberated areas for their support of the republican system and legitimate state institutions. It urged citizens to cooperate fully with security and military forces, reporting any activities that could threaten security or endanger civilian lives.
