Addis ababa: The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture affirmed that citrus fruits are among the most prominent national agricultural products, given their high nutritional value and effective role in promoting public health.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the ministry noted that the growing demand for citrus consumption and the diversity of its varieties reflect the importance of the local product and its pivotal role in achieving food sustainability and supporting food security in the Kingdom.
As part of the objectives of its awareness campaign launched during the holy month, the ministry indicated that citrus production has recorded more than 123,000 tons of lemons, in addition to 35,700 tons of oranges, making them a healthy and suitable choice for iftar and suhoor tables during the holy month of Ramadan.
During its campaign, the ministry highlighted the diverse varieties of citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, citrons, tangerines, grapefruits, and kumquats, in addition to their processed products, including sweets and juices. This reflects the diversity of agricultural production, its support for the national economy, and its ability to meet the needs of local markets with high quality.
The ministry also called on consumers to favor national citrus products during the holy month in support of local farmers, in reinforcement of the national economy, and as a contribution to achieving the targets of food security and agricultural sustainability, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
