According to Saudi Press Agency, the initiative is part of the academy's vision to connect emerging talents with the history of Saudi sports and its continental and global accomplishments by assigning names with enduring historical significance to its various sports facilities.

The new names include 'Field 84,' commemorating the Saudi national football team's triumph at the 1984 AFC Asian Cup, 'Field 88,' celebrating the team's second continental title at the 1988 AFC Asian Cup, and 'Field 96,' honoring Saudi Arabia's third Asian championship following its victory in the 1996 AFC Asian Cup.

In athletics, the academy named its main track 'Hadi Soua'an Track' in honor of Saudi athlete Hadi Soua'an, who made history by winning a silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics, becoming the first Saudi athlete to claim an Olympic medal in athletics.
