Death Toll from Indonesia Earthquake Rises to 20

Madinah: The death toll from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck off Flores Island in eastern Indonesia early Saturday morning has risen to 20, with six people injured.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics reported dozens of aftershocks along the eastern coast, along with tsunami waves under one meter high in several coastal areas.

Indonesia and neighboring regions frequently experience seismic activity because they lie along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a highly active geological zone extending through Southeast Asia and the Pacific Ocean basin.
