Cairo:The Fifth Arab Forum for Environment began today at the General Secretariat of the Arab League, with participation from the Arab League, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), and the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the two-day forum gathers officials, experts, and representatives from Arab and international states and organizations to discuss sustainable management and resilience of rangeland systems in the face of climate change. Key topics include participatory governance, legislative frameworks, value chains, innovation and technology, nature-based solutions, and financing and investment strategies in the rangeland sector.

The forum's agenda features sessions on several critical areas such as rangeland governance, legislative frameworks, nature-based solutions, and rangeland restoration. It also addresses the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of rangeland systems, along with the application of technology and artificial intelligence. One of the highlights is a high-level session focusing on rangeland restoration, resilience building, and financing the transition.

Additionally, the forum explores the role of "Hima," an Arab model for community-based resource management, in developing a unified Arab vision to integrate rangelands into national biodiversity and climate policies. It emphasizes enhancing financing and investment and engaging herders, local communities, women, and youth in these efforts.
