Shura Council Advances Global Engagement Through Parliamentary Diplomacy

Riyadh:During the second year of its ninth session, the Shura Council conducted 135 parliamentary diplomacy engagements, utilizing Saudi Arabia's international influence to enhance partnerships with legislative bodies around the globe.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the council participated in 41 conferences and assemblies organized by regional and international parliamentary unions, where it expressed the Kingdom's views on global issues and shared legislative insights. A significant achievement was the activation of Saudi Arabia's presidency of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, which included hosting its 39th conference under King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud's patronage to promote collaborative Arab parliamentary initiatives.

Within the Gulf region, the council is preparing to host the upcoming regular meeting for the speakers of the shura, representatives, national, and ummah councils of GCC states. This event aims to align regional priorities and strengthen legislative connections among member states.

On a bilateral level, the council undertook seven official parliamentary visits abroad to reinforce ties with other legislatures. Additionally, 59 meetings of parliamentary friendship committees were conducted to broaden communication and coordinate policy views, while council leaders welcomed 28 delegations of parliamentary speakers, deputies, and international diplomats.

These activities demonstrate the Shura Council's dedication to building sustainable international partnerships, employing parliamentary diplomacy to support Saudi foreign policy, foster mutual understanding, and elevate the Kingdom's legislative role globally.
