Islamic Affairs Minister Opens ASEAN Conference in Cambodia

Riyadh:Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al Alsheikh inaugurated the fourth ASEAN Countries Conference in Cambodia, organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance. The event was attended by ministers, scholars, researchers, and Islamic figures from Saudi Arabia and ASEAN countries, alongside ambassadors from Arab and Islamic countries accredited to Cambodia.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al Alsheikh delivered Saudi Arabia's address at the opening ceremony, highlighting the conference's role in showcasing the strong brotherly relations and cooperative efforts among Islamic affairs leaders. He emphasized the need for unity and adherence to Islamic teachings amidst global conflicts, urging a return to the Holy Quran and the Prophet Muhammad's Sunnah to maintain Islamic identity.

Cambodian Minister Dr. Othsman Hassan welcomed attendees and commended Saudi Arabia for its contributions to Islam and Muslims, particularly its promotion of moderation and balance. He appreciated the choice of Cambodia as the launch location for the conference's fourth edition and acknowledged Saudi Arabia's programs fostering communication with Islamic institutions in ASEAN countries.

The conference began its scientific sessions following the opening, with five sessions on topics including the moderate approach, moderation's concept and challenges, and its application in belief, worship, ethics, conduct, and methodology. Discussions also focused on the merits and threats to moderation.
