Fourth ASEAN ‘Khair Ummah’ Conference Highlights Saudi Arabia’s Role in Promoting Moderation

Phnom Penh:The 4th ASEAN "Khair Ummah" Conference, organized by Cambodia's Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, concluded its first day with the fifth session in the capital city, Phnom Penh.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the conference gathers scholars, officials, and Islamic figures from Saudi Arabia and ASEAN member states to discuss various topics.

The final session of the day focused on the role of governments and institutions in promoting moderation and protecting communities from extremist ideas. Discussions also covered the impact of educational and religious institutions in fostering a culture of moderation, strengthening coexistence, and enhancing social stability.

The session highlighted Saudi Arabia's efforts in promoting a moderate approach, emphasizing the Kingdom's experience in building state institutions as a practical model. This approach includes promoting moderation in education and religious discourse, strengthening national identity, countering extremism, and fostering critical thinking. These measures aim to build a cohesive society characterized by moderation and intellectual resilience.

The importance of states and their institutions in establishing practices that protect communities and strengthen intellectual security, peace, and coexistence was also underscored during the session.
