Al-Baha:Farmers in the Al-Baha Region have started harvesting pomegranates as the harvest season begins, aligning with the upcoming 15th edition of the Pomegranate Festival. This event is set to gather farmers, producers, and enthusiasts of the region's significant agricultural crop, offering a platform for marketing local produce and showcasing its quality and variety.
According to Saudi Press Agency, pomegranate farms across various governorates in the region are bustling with activity as farmers engage in picking, preparing, and sorting the fruit for the market and festival participation. The focus is on preserving crop quality and maximizing the production season to enhance the economic returns of their farms.
Fahad Al-Zahrani, Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture's branch in Al-Baha, stated that the region boasts approximately 750,000 pomegranate trees, with an annual production estimated at around 10,000 tons. He emphasized ongoing efforts to advance pomegranate cultivation, improve production efficiency, and boost farmers' economic returns.
Farmer Tariq Al-Zahrani, who manages a farm with over 6,000 pomegranate trees, described the harvest season as the result of months of diligent care and monitoring of the trees. The process includes irrigation, pruning, and agricultural maintenance, continuing through fruit ripening, picking, sorting, and preparation for marketing.
The pomegranate season in Al-Baha exemplifies the region's agricultural diversity. The fruit transitions from farms to sales outlets, embodying the results of farmers' year-round efforts and solidifying pomegranates as a key agricultural product integral to the region's identity and farming seasons.
