Baghdad -The newspapers issued today, Sunday, paid attention to the speech of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani at the Cairo Peace Summit and the emergency meeting of the Federation of Arab Journalists in Cairo to discuss the Israeli aggression against Gaza.
Regarding Al-Sudani’s speech at the summit, Al-Sabah newspaper said that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani called for the establishment of a fund to support and rebuild Gaza, stressing that Iraq will not delay in providing any possible assistance to the besieged Strip and rejects attempts to empty Gaza of its people.
The Prime Minister indicated in his speech at the 2023 Cairo Peace Summit, which was held yesterday, Saturday: “The Palestinian people are being subjected to a process of genocide by targeting civilians in residential complexes, churches and hospitals,” pointing out that “the Baptist Hospital massacre showed the true face of the Zionist occupation and its intentions, which crossed all red lines."
He continued, "It is a full-fledged war crime that began with the killing of the defenseless and the imposition of a stifling siege on those who remained alive. It is truly difficult to depict in words what is happening daily in terms of horrific acts that do not stop, massacres that do not stop, and the burial of innocents under the rubble of their homes on the land of their displacement since the first days of the Nakba of 1948.”
He stressed that “Gaza today constitutes a new test for the world order, which has failed several times in implementing the values of humanity, justice and freedom it calls for, and Palestine is a living witness to this failure,” adding that “the time has come to put an end to this hateful occupation, and stop the suffering of the Palestinian people.” He said: “Gaza today constitutes a new test for the world order, which has failed several times in implementing the values of humanity, justice and freedom it calls for, and Palestine was and continues to be a living witness to this failure.”
Al-Sudani addressed the leaders and representatives of the countries gathered at the summit, saying: “Isn’t it time to put an end to this hateful occupation? Isn’t it time for us to stop the suffering of this struggling, steadfast people? Whose actions some friends describe in their words as terrorist!” While the systematic destructive crimes of the Zionist occupation are a defense.
He added, "When do we acknowledge that injustice does not produce sustainable peace, and that there is no way to achieve security, stability, and end violence except by eliminating its causes, primarily the occupation and policies of racial discrimination."
He stressed that "the Zionist entity today continues to violate laws, including the laws of war, which will affect international security and its sustainability. The conflict may extend regionally, threatening energy supplies to global markets, adding another burden to the burdens of global economic crises, and opening the door to deeper and broader conflicts."
He continued, "Also, it (the Zionist entity) continues to violate the Third Geneva Convention regarding Prisoners of War, and the Fourth Convention that provides protection for civilians in the occupied territories, in addition to its violation of the International Covenant on Civil Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and more than seventy-eight Security Council resolutions related to the Palestinian issue.”
He pointed out, "We are addressing consciences and minds, and saying: The Palestinian issue would not have reached these tragic conditions, if international resolutions had been respected, and if international bodies had assumed their responsibilities, and listened to a people who only ask to be granted their legitimate rights to self-determination, independence, and sovereignty."
Regarding the emergency meeting of the Federation of Arab Journalists today, Al-Zawraa newspaper, which is published by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, quoted the head of the Federation of Arab Journalists, head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Muayyad Al-Lami, announcing that 16 journalists were killed and dozens wounded by Israeli occupation forces’ fire in Palestine, while indicating that international courts will be resorted to for trial the Zionist leaders. He confirmed that the General Secretariat of the Arab Journalists will take strong decisions during its emergency meeting, which will be held in Cairo today, Sunday.
The head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate and head of the Federation of Arab Journalists, Muayyad Al-Lami, said in his speech during a popular demonstration that began in Baghdad to support the Palestinian people: “The Zionists destroyed mosques and churches and killed 16 civilian journalists who were covering the events to the world, and wounded dozens of journalists in addition to other civilians.”
He added: I will go to Cairo to chair an emergency meeting of the General Federation of Arab Journalists, and we will take strong decisions, not the least of which is to go to international courts to request the prosecution of the Zionist leaders who committed these heinous crimes against the Palestinian people.
Al-Lami addressed the demonstrators, saying: Today, you are at the forefront of all peoples, and the whole world looks at you and looks at your courage and your true and realistic positions in support of the Palestinian people and the oppressed around the world. May God bless you and your families, and salutes to you, and through you, salutes to the souls of the martyrs of Palestine and the sons of Gaza, and salutes to the heroic resistors who stand against the attack. The murderous, criminal Zionist barbarism, which, unfortunately, no one in the Western world stood up and said to them: “No.. Do not kill children.. Do not kill women.. Rather, there are media fabrications that have been reported to the Western media, many of which are wrong and often tragic for the Zionists, and there is the real, tragic opposite for the Palestinian citizens who are killed daily in cold blood.
He continued: We will communicate with international media organizations, especially Western ones, and we will send them the truth so that they know that the Zionists kill and slaughter children and women while the Palestinian is trying to defend his land, his homeland, and his soil in order to liberate it.
He concluded by saying: Greetings once again to you, honorable Iraqis, on this day as you stand in a position of pride. The fathers and all Iraqi and Arab journalists salute you, stand with you, and thank you for your stance. Thank you..”/ End
