Kuwait city: Kuwaiti air defences are actively engaging hostile missile and drone attacks originating from Iran, the army announced Thursday, Anadolu Ajansi reported. The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces took to US social media company X to confirm the engagement, stating, "Kuwaiti air defences are currently responding to hostile missile and drone threats."

According to Nam News Network, the army has confirmed that any explosions heard by the public are due to air defence systems intercepting "hostile targets." The Kuwaiti public has been urged to follow safety and security instructions issued by the authorities to ensure their safety.

The Iranian IRIB news agency has claimed that US military bases in Kuwait were targeted during the operation, with reports of at least one base being hit, causing plumes of smoke to rise. Iran has yet to comment on the attack, leaving the situation tense and unresolved.

This escalation follows a recent US strike on Larak Island, which broke a previous month-long lull in direct fighting. The retaliatory waves from Iran have not only targeted Kuwait but have also extended to the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. Since the commencement of US-Israeli operations against Iran on February 28, 2026, Kuwait has been among the most targeted nations hosting US forces.

Iran maintains that its attacks are aimed at the US military presence in Kuwait, rather than the Kuwaiti populace, and has demanded the immediate withdrawal of US forces from the country. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran stated on Wednesday that it specifically targeted the headquarters and accommodation of the US commander at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
