Alula: AlUla Governorate is marking the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, observed annually on April 6. This year's theme, 'Sport: Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers,' underscores the role of sport in strengthening social cohesion and promoting the values of inclusion and peace. According to Saudi Press Agency, the day reflects the international community's recognition of sport's importance as an effective tool for supporting economic and social development, promoting human rights, and empowering individuals, as well as its role in fostering values of cooperation and fair competition. AlUla is considered one of the destinations that has successfully integrated sport into sustainable development pathways, bringing together athletes from around the world in a positive atmosphere of competition and cross-cultural exchange. This has been supported by its diverse terrain and natural environments, which provide an ideal setting for hosting sporting activities and attracting both amateurs and professionals. The governorate has embraced a diverse sporting ecosystem that combines modern and traditional disciplines, including cycling, equestrian events, camel racing, and desert adventure sports. This integrated experience reflects the richness of AlUla's sporting landscape. In this context, the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) plays a central role in developing the sports sector by strengthening infrastructure, preparing modern facilities, and implementing qualitative projects, including cycling tracks, equestrian facilities, and venues for traditional sports, as well as stadiums, sports halls, and walking and running tracks. These efforts promote a sports culture within the community and enhance quality of life. These initiatives have also boosted tourism and economic activity, opened new avenues for investment, and consolidated AlUla's position as a global destination that brings together sport, nature, and culture within an integrated development framework.
